WEATHER CONDITIONS
Weather conditions: |
| There was an extraordinary heavy snow cover and a very late snow melt, which resulted in delayed breeding in waders. Many Turnstones and Knots did not breed at all. Snow melt was 10-14 days later than in the previous 4 years, and medians of first egg-laying dates in Sanderlings and Dunlins were six days late as compared to 1998, which may have been close to average. Those Turnstones, who bred, did so 12 days later than the year before. The remaining pairs either stayed at their territories without breeding or rambled over the tundra for 1-2 weeks before they formed post-breeding flocks and left. Even the average clutch size was reduced by 4.6-9.4% in Sanderlings, Dunlins and Turnstones. |

BIOTIC CONDITIONS
| Rodents abundance evaluation: |

Breeding conditions:
| Lemmings and Arctic Foxes were common. It was a late breeding season, with good production of most species, but poor production in Turnstones, Long-tailed Skua, and probably also in Knots. Medium predation by Arctic Foxes. Bird breeding performance can be evaluated as moderate. |
